This past weekend, February 14th–16th, the Bay Area witnessed a breakout moment as Ryland Julio, representing American Top Team Tracy, captured the Major League Muay Thai 15–16 year old male lightweight championship title.
The title bout was anything but easy.
Ryland faced a skilled and determined opponent out of San Jose, a gym well known for relentless forward pressure and high-paced fighting. From the opening bell, the match moved at a lightning tempo. The challenger pushed forward immediately, looking to close distance and force exchanges. Ryland answered with composure well beyond his years—using sharp fight IQ, clean technique, and disciplined footwork to maintain range and land clear, scoring strikes while his opponent tried to crowd him.
As the fight progressed, Ryland’s control became more apparent.
In the third round, he put an exclamation point on the performance. Ryland executed seven consecutive teeps (front kicks), repeatedly disrupting his opponent’s momentum and balance. The sequence resulted in two knockdowns, creating a decisive separation and firmly establishing Ryland’s command of the fight.
